Badlands are a type of dry terrain in which softer sedimentary rocks and clay rich soils have been extensively eroded, leaving steep slopes, little vegetation, high drainage density and almost no soil cover. Ravines, gullies, buttes and hoodoos are all landforms commonly found within badlands, forming as a direct result of the same erosional processes acting on the same kind of weak, easily eroded rock and soil.
