Ayalon Valley is a geographical depression in Israel's Shephelah lowland region that has long served as a transportation corridor between the coastal plain and Jerusalem. It takes its name from the ancient city of Ayalon, first inhabited by the Tribe of Dan, and is identified with the biblical settlement of the former village of Yalo at the base of the Beit Horon pass. The valley was the setting for notable biblical battles, including Joshua's victory over five Amorite kings and Saul and Jonathan's triumph over the Philistines, and today it holds several kibbutzim and moshavim, Canada Park, the Yad La-Shiryon Armored Corps Museum, Mini Israel, Latrun Monastery and the Emmaus Nicopolis archaeological site, as well as the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem railway.
