Astore Valley is a roughly 120-kilometre-long valley in the Astore District of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, sitting at about 2,600 metres elevation and flanked by unnamed peaks reaching around 5,400 metres with jagged, snow-covered ridgelines. Historically the valley was ruled from 1595 by Ali Sher Khan Anchan and later granted to Shah Sultan's line, which governed it independently until 1842, after which it passed through the Sikh Empire and the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir before joining Pakistan following the 1947 Gilgit Rebellion and becoming its own district in 2004. It lies near Rama Lake, Minimarg Valley, Rupal Valley and Deosai National Park, within the wider Himalaya and Karakoram mountain region.
