Anderson Canyon is a canyon in the Big Sur region of Monterey County, California, within Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, just south of McWay Falls. It carries Anderson Creek and is overlooked by Anderson Peak at 4,099 feet, with an upland redwood forest of coastal redwood, California bay, tanbark oak and big-leaf maple covering its slopes. The canyon lies within the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and a California condor reintroduction area, and is named for pioneering homesteaders James and Peter Andersen, the first European settlers there. During the 1930s it held a prison labor camp built for the construction of Highway One, and in the 1940s it became home to a community of bohemian artists and writers including Henry Miller, who lived there from 1944 to 1947.
