Adams Glacier lies on the northwest side of Mount Adams, a 12,281 foot stratovolcano in Washington State, and is the mountain's largest glacier, descending about 2.5 miles from the summit ice cap above 12,000 feet to a terminus near 7,000 feet. Between about 11,800 and 9,200 feet the glacier drops through a steep, crevassed icefall, and below 8,400 feet it spreads into five separate ice tongues bounded by extensive moraines; its meltwater feeds Adams Creek, a tributary of the Cispus River, and also reaches the Lewis River. The glacier has shrunk by about 68 percent in area between 1904 and 2021, and its name came about in 1901 when the surveyor Harry Fielding Reid declined to have it named for him, so his guide Claude Ewing Rusk named it for the mountain instead; Fred Beckey, Dave Lind and Robert Mulhall made its first ascent in July 1945.
