An abyssal hill is a small hill that rises from the floor of an abyssal plain, generally reaching no more than a few hundred meters in height and ranging from a few hundred meters to several kilometers across. Abyssal hills are the most abundant geomorphic structures on Earth, together covering more than thirty percent of the ocean floor. A stretch of abyssal plain thickly studded with them is called an abyssal hills province, though the hills can also occur in small clusters or standing alone.
