Paleozoic Fossil Sites

Fossil beds and rock units from the Paleozoic Era, from the Cambrian explosion through the Permian, noted for exceptional preservation of marine life, early land plants and animals. A site belongs here when its cited article dates it to the Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Carboniferous or Permian. It excludes Precambrian and Mesozoic sites. Many are Lagerstatten, deposits where soft tissue survives, so they show far more of ancient ecosystems than ordinary fossil beds.
