A thalweg, sometimes spelled talweg, is the line or curve of lowest elevation running along a valley or watercourse, marking the deepest path within a stream channel or valley floor. In geography, hydrography and fluvial geomorphology it is normally treated as a two dimensional line on a map, with its vertical profile represented separately as the stream's own longitudinal profile.
