Porosity, also called void fraction, is a measure of the empty spaces within a material, expressed as the fraction of the material's total volume that is void, ranging from 0 to 1, or equivalently from 0 to 100 percent. Some measurement methods capture only what is known as accessible void, meaning the void space that can actually be reached from the material's surface, rather than every enclosed pore.
