The Goldschmidt classification, developed by Victor Goldschmidt, is a geochemical scheme that groups the chemical elements found within the Earth according to the phase they prefer to associate with. It sorts elements into lithophile elements that concentrate in silicate rock, siderophile elements that concentrate in metallic iron, chalcophile elements that associate with sulfide minerals, and atmophile or volatile elements that concentrate in the atmosphere.
