This group collects the Volcanic Formations subcategory's members whose own description identifies them as a shield volcano, a broad, gently sloping volcano built up from many highly fluid basaltic lava flows rather than from explosive eruptions. Hawaii's volcanoes and several of the volcanic islands of the Comoros and East Africa's rift systems supply much of this subcategory's shield-volcano content, and a member is placed here only when its own description states the shield-volcano type directly rather than a more general term such as "volcano" alone.
