Volcanic Plugs and Necks

This group collects the Volcanic Formations subcategory's members whose own description identifies them as a volcanic plug, volcanic neck or hardened magma plug, the solidified core of magma left standing after the softer volcanic cone that once surrounded it has eroded away. Shiprock, Sigiriya Rock and Wolf Rock are among this group's named plugs and necks, each the resistant remnant of an otherwise vanished volcanic edifice.
