Jornada del Muerto

Jornada del Muerto is a desert basin in New Mexico, named by Spanish conquistadors for the roughly 90-mile waterless trail that crossed it as part of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, linking colonial New Spain to the northern reaches of Nuevo Mexico Province. Spaceport America sits in the basin's middle portion, and the Trinity nuclear test site, where the first atomic bomb was detonated in 1945, lies in its northern part.
