Crevasse

Structural and Tectonic Formations

A crevasse is a deep crack that forms in a glacier or ice sheet. It forms as a result of the movement and resulting shear stress generated when two semi-rigid sections of ice, resting above a plastic substrate, move at different rates, and the resulting stress causes a breakage along the ice's faces.
