Haar (Fog)

Meteorology

Haar is a cold sea fog that occurs most frequently along Scotland's east coast between April and September. It forms when warmer, moist air moves over the relatively cooler waters of the North Sea, causing moisture in the air to condense, and sea breezes or easterly winds then carry the fog inland, where it can penetrate several miles from the coast. A similar fog is occasionally observed near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
