Siek is a north German term for a wet depression, hollow or lowland area, used chiefly to describe a characteristic element of the cultural landscape in eastern Westphalia, particularly in the county of Lippe and the Ravensberg Land region. In East Westphalia, siek is a very common component of the names of tracts of land, roads and places, and even of personal surnames such as Heidsiek, Siekhorst, Siekmann and Sieker.
