Steilhang

Landform Concepts

A Steilhang is a geoscientific term for a steep mountainside or hillside whose average slope exceeds thirty degrees, roughly a one to two grade. One standard definition places a Steilhang between sixteen and sixty degrees of incline, describing a slope of thirty to sixty degrees as very steep, or ubersteil, and reserving the term rock face, or wand, for anything steeper than sixty degrees.
