Flared Slope

Landform Concepts

A flared slope is a landform consisting of a rock wall with a smooth transition into a concavity at its foot. Flared slopes form through weathering patterns that act more strongly on the regolith or soil-covered base of a rock wall than higher up, and are common in granitic rocks though they also occur in other rock types such as ignimbrite; they are documented in Australia, Spain, South Africa and the western United States, most often in semi-arid climates.
