Cut Bank

Landform Concepts

A cut bank, also called a river cliff or river-cut cliff, is the outside bank of a meander in a stream channel that is continually undergoing erosion. It occurs on the outer side of a meander bend, opposite the point bar on the inner side, and is shaped much like a small cliff where the current collides with the bank; a cut bank is the erosional counterpart of a point bar, where material eroded upstream is instead deposited.
