Bowerman's Nose is a stack of weathered granite on the northern slopes of Hayne Down on Dartmoor, Devon, England, about a mile from Hound Tor near the village of Manaton. It stands approximately 21.5 feet (6.6 meters) tall and represents the hard granite core of a former tor, surrounded by clitter, the debris of fractured granite blocks left behind as the rest of the tor weathered away, a process the accumulated debris demonstrates is still ongoing. Early writers dramatically exaggerated its height, some claiming 40 to 50 feet rather than its actual 21.5 feet, and the rock's outline has long been read as a face, giving the formation its name; one writer likened it to a figure wearing a grey cap pushed back from its face. This entity documents Bowerman's Nose specifically as a geological formation, the weathered granite core of a former Dartmoor tor.
