Kjerag

Inselbergs and Crystalline Monoliths

Kjerag is a mountain on the southern shore of the Lysefjorden in Rogaland, Norway, rising to 1,132 meters. Its northern face is a sheer cliff plunging 984 meters almost straight down to the fjord below, one of the most dramatic rock walls in Norway. Wedged between two rock faces partway up the mountain sits Kjeragbolten, a five cubic meter boulder trapped in a crevasse above the void, alongside the Kjeragfossen waterfall. The mountain's rough, textured rock face is said to have given it its name, from Norwegian words for a kid goat and its shaggy fur.
