Moro Rock is a granite dome rock formation in Sequoia National Park, California, at the head of Moro Creek between Giant Forest and Crescent Meadow, reaching an elevation of 6,725 feet with a topographic prominence of 245 feet. The dome dates to the Cretaceous period and formed through exfoliation, a process in which the erosion of overlying rock reduces compression on the granite beneath, causing it to expand outward; the fractures produced by this process tend to cut corners rather than edges, which over time rounds the rock into a dome shape. A 797 foot stairway of about 400 steps, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1931, allows visitors to climb to the summit, from which much of the park, including the Great Western Divide, is visible.
