Ben Amera

Inselbergs and Crystalline Monoliths

Ben Amera rises from the Sahara desert floor in Mauritania near the border with Western Sahara, about four kilometers north of the railway line the Iron Ore Train runs between Nouadhibou and Choum. Reaching about 633 meters above the surrounding desert, it is described as Africa's largest monolith and the world's second-largest monolith after Uluru in Australia, a dramatic solitary landmark visible for great distances across the flat desert terrain. This entity documents Ben Amera specifically as a geological formation, Africa's largest monolith and the world's second-largest after Uluru.
