Urseren

Valleys

Urseren, also spelled Ursern, is an Alpine valley above 1,400 meters elevation carrying the upper Reuss River in the canton of Uri, Switzerland. Running southwest to northeast between Realp, Hospental, and Andermatt, it functions as a central Alpine crossroads, linking to Valais by the Furka Pass, to Grisons by the Oberalp Pass, to Ticino by the Gotthard Pass, and northward to the Urner Reuss valley. The valley was settled by Walser colonists before the twelfth century and became part of the Old Swiss Confederacy in 1410.
