Urnerboden

Valleys

Urnerboden is a high Alpine valley and alp in the canton of Uri, Switzerland, sitting at an elevation of 1,383 meters and containing a small settlement of the same name. At roughly 8 kilometers in length it is believed to be the largest alp in Switzerland. The valley forms a geographically isolated part of the municipality of Spiringen, separated from the rest of the municipality by territory belonging to Unterschachen and the Klausen Pass, and its seasonal mountain road closes from October through May, leaving its roughly 40 residents to reach the rest of their municipality by a long detour through Linthal in the canton of Glarus.
