Salmon Glacier is a valley glacier in western Canada, about 25 kilometers north of Stewart, British Columbia and Hyder, Alaska, on the Canadian side of the border within the Boundary Ranges. It is one of hundreds of glaciers in the Boundary Ranges and is recognized for its potential as a natural hazard: Summit Lake, at its northern end, breaks its ice dam nearly every year around mid-July, sending the Salmon River up roughly four to five feet for several days. The glacier can be reached by vehicle from Hyder, Alaska, between early July and late September, and its official name was adopted by the Geographical Names Board of Canada on January 20, 1955.
