Glaciers and Ice Formations

Briksdalsbreen is one of the most accessible and best known arms of the Jostedalsbreen glacier, reaching down into the Briksdalen valley at the end of Oldedalen in Stryn Municipality, Vestland county, Norway, about 25 kilometers south of the village of Olden. It is roughly 2.5 kilometers long and covers about 10.4 square kilometers, descending from about 1,910 meters to about 346 meters, where it terminates in the small glacial lake Briksdalsbrevatnet within Jostedalsbreen National Park. Its combination of easy access and dramatic descent has made it both a popular tourist destination and a frequently studied site for tracking how glaciers respond to changes in climate and precipitation.
