Bråsvellbreen

Bråsvellbreen, meaning the Sudden Swell Glacier, is a glacier in Nordaustlandet, Svalbard, forming a 45-kilometer stream flowing south from the ice dome Sørdomen of Austfonna and debouching into the sea on the south coast. In the late 1930s the glacier was observed to have undergone a huge surge, forming a ten-kilometer-long tongue into the sea. Representing 13 percent of Austfonna's total surface, it is well known in the Arctic for its spectacular waterfalls and glacial streams.
