Allison Glacier (Heard Island)

Allison Glacier is an ice stream on the western side of Heard Island, a remote volcanic island that Australia administers in the southern Indian Ocean. The glacier descends from the Big Ben massif to the sea, terminating just south of Cape Gazert between the Vahsel Glacier to its north and the Abbotsmith Glacier to its south, with an ice thickness of roughly fifty five meters. It is named for the Australian glaciologist Ian Allison, who studied the area in 1971 during the French-Australian Antarctic Expedition, and studies since 1986 have recorded the glacier retreating.
