The Doon Valley is a wide, roughly 75-kilometre-long valley in the Sivalik Hills and Lesser Himalaya, spanning parts of the Indian states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, bounded by the Siwalik Hills to the south and the Mussoorie Range to the north. It forms the watershed between the Yamuna and Ganges river systems, with the Yamuna marking its western edge and the Ganges its eastern edge. The valley holds Dehradun, the winter capital of Uttarakhand, and supports hardwood deciduous forest dominated by sal and teak along with natural wetlands that shelter more than 500 recorded bird species. Summers are mild and winter temperatures can fall below freezing.
