The Fraser Valley is a geographical region in southwestern British Columbia, Canada, extending from just west of Hope to the Pacific Ocean, bounded by the North Shore Mountains near Vancouver in the north and the area south of Bellingham, Washington in the south. It is built around the Fraser River, which flows through the valley to the Strait of Georgia. During the last ice age the area lay under glaciers; as the ice retreated, land once buried beneath it was submerged by water and then slowly rose above it, forming the basin that exists today. The valley extends roughly 80 kilometers east from the built-up Vancouver area to Chilliwack and Agassiz, and it contains the Fraser Delta, the largest landform of the Lower Mainland ecoregion.
