The Waimangu Volcanic Rift Valley is a hydrothermal system on the North Island of New Zealand, created on 10 June 1886 by the volcanic eruption of Mount Tarawera. It encompasses Lake Rotomahana, site of the vanished Pink and White Terraces, and the location of the Waimangu Geyser, which was active from 1900 to 1904. The valley also contains Frying Pan Lake, the largest hot spring in the world, and the steaming, pale blue Inferno Crater Lake, the largest geyser-like feature in the world, though the geyser itself cannot be seen because it plays at the bottom of the lake.
