Second Thomas Shoal, also called Ayungin Shoal, is a submerged reef in the Spratly Islands of the South China Sea, about 105 nautical miles west of Palawan in the Philippines. It is claimed by multiple nations, and since 1999 has been occupied by a garrison of Philippine Navy personnel aboard the intentionally grounded ship BRP Sierra Madre.
