Wave-cut platform

A wave cut platform, also called a shore platform, coastal bench or wave cut cliff, is the narrow flat area often found at the base of a sea cliff or along the shoreline of a lake, bay or sea, created by erosion. Wave cut platforms are often most visible at low tide, when they appear as large areas of flat rock; where the landward side is covered by sand forming a beach, the platform may only be identifiable at low tide or when storms move the sand.
