Zhongzhou Reef is a small coral reef on the northern edge of the Tizard Bank in the Spratly Islands of the South China Sea, administered by Taiwan, lying about 4.6 kilometers east of Taiwan-held Taiping Island and 7.2 kilometers west of Vietnamese-held Sand Cay. Formed from an accumulation of seashells, sand, coral and reef debris into a roughly circular coral plate about 1.3 kilometers across, it measures only about 100 by 100 meters at its exposed core, with dry land ranging from around 0.2 hectares at high tide to 0.6 hectares at low tide. Beyond Taiwan, the reef is also claimed by mainland China, the Philippines and Vietnam as part of the broader South China Sea territorial disputes.
