Cenote Xlacah

Cenotes

Cenote Xlacah lies at the Dzibilchaltun archaeological site, about 15 kilometers north of Merida in Yucatan, Mexico. A 1958 expedition sponsored by the National Geographic Society recovered more than 30,000 objects from its waters, evidence of its long use as an offering site by the Maya who built the city around it. The Divinity Atlas already carries this same cenote as a sacred site and body of water documenting its religious and archaeological role; this entity documents Cenote Xlacah specifically as a geological formation, a karst sinkhole at Dzibilchaltun that yielded a major National Geographic-sponsored artifact recovery.
