Cenote de la Bruja

Cenotes

Cenote de la Bruja, also called Cenote Negro for its darker-colored water, lies on the shore of the Bacalar lagoon in Quintana Roo, Mexico, near the nearby Cenote Azul at Bacalar. Its depth ranges from about 2 meters at the shallow edge to roughly 90 meters at its deepest point, a range consistent with the abrupt cenote-formed depths that punctuate the otherwise shallow lagoon. It formed, like the lagoon's other cenotes, from the collapse of limestone bedrock into a flooded cavity below. This entity documents Cenote de la Bruja specifically as a geological formation, a darker-colored cenote on the Bacalar lagoon ranging from 2 to about 90 meters deep.
